The subject was developed from a photographic tour of the repair facility of Severn Valley Heritage Railway at Bewdley. This coach is one of many under refurbishment by a dedicated team of volunteers. I was particularly drawn to the abstract nature of peeling paint, tarpaulin protection, rusted hardware and assorted repair debris. This is an exploration of abstract pattern combined with the literal image of a coach.

I visited a National Trust property in Devon. The entrance path was bordered by a fence upon which was sat a very regal looking peacock. It seemed to say “ok you may come in but I am master here”. The main image is loosely drawn from the Temple to Sulis at the Roman Baths in – Bath!

“Client Trees” This is a second attempt. The first was ruined do to bruise marks on the wood which came out as scars on the final print. This image was reworked in lino floor tile using Japanese and Swiss cutting tools plus drill bits and nails (plus a hammer and delicate touch!)

This is a reduction lino cut print featuring the repairs undertaken to the M6 motorway flyover the canal beneath. Seen from the towpath around Oldbury there is an urban harmony between the old canal brickwork, graffiti and the new build structures with scaffold.

The inspiration for this print came from life drawing sketches (not the whale!). There is a strong Japanese printing influence in the design following study of ancient woodcuts. Textures in the print were achieved using a range of marks using traditional lino and woodcut tools.

This Original lino print is an interpretation of an LMS Princess Coronation Class engine 6229 “Duchess of Hamilton” housed at York Railway Museum. I was attracted by the abstract nature of the hardware, made sketches and took photographs. The engine itself is a magnificent beast.

The subject is engine number 43106 an LMS 4 class engine. It was one of the last operating steam locomotives and now operates on the Severn Valley heritage railway where it is affectionately known as the “Flying Pig”. I was fortunate to have a tour of the repair yard at Bewdley Station which has generated a number of art projects.

During a rather wet summer my crocosmia plants thrived producing a wonderful show of bobbled buds followed by red and orange spiked flowers. The plants attrcted a variety of butterflies and other flying beauties.These I have attempted to reproduce in this original lino print.

During a glorious stay in France I planted, tended and harvested hese huge tomatoes. They were delicious with cheese and made an excellent tomato sauce . The variety was Portuguese Giant, the outdoore colours range as they progress through to maturity

My access to the outside world was restricted for a lengthy period of time resulting in hunting around our house for inspiration, this orange jumped out from the fruit bowl! Peeled, it displayed facinating shapes and colour shades lending themselves to a degree of absraction. I preserved an orange glow around the image as a metaphor for zest contained in the peel
